2018 ALA Emerging Leader Application Available

ALA is now accepting applications for the 2018 class of Emerging Leaders. Details on the program criteria as well as a link to the application can be found on the Emerging Leaders Web page.  The deadline to apply is August 31, 2017.

The EL program is a leadership development program which enables newer library workers from across the country to participate in problem-solving work groups, network with peers, gain an inside look into ALA structure, and have an opportunity to serve the profession in a leadership capacity. It puts participants on the fast track to ALA committee volunteerism as well as other professional library-related organizations

An ALA division, round table, ethnic affiliate, state chapter or school library media affiliate will sponsor nearly two-thirds of the selected applicants. Each sponsor will contribute a minimum of $1,000 toward expenses of attending the ALA Midwinter Meeting and Annual Conference ($500 for each conference). Sponsorship is not required for participation in the program. A list of sponsoring units is included as part of the online application.

LLAMA Webinar: “Pushing A Boulder Uphill — Leading Organizational Change In An Entrenched Environment”

Implementing and leading organizational change is tricky in any situation; but it is even more difficult in entrenched institutions that have suffered from a lack of new ideas and perspectives. Often, it can feel like you are suffering like the mythical Sisyphus; and pushing a boulder uphill, only to have it roll back down. But it doesn’t have to be that way! The Library Leadership and Management Association (LLAMA) will present “Pushing A Boulder Uphill — Leading Organizational Change In An Entrenched Environment,” on Wednesday, August 9, at 1:30-3:00 pm (Central Time).

In this webinar, presenters Phill Johnson and Jessica Hayes will describe their experience in leading organizational change, explain how to strengthen or build leadership skills for this challenge, and highlight activities and techniques that lead to success.

2017 PR XChange Awards Announced

The PR XChange Committee is delighted to announce the winners of this year’s PR XChange Awards Competition.  The PR XChange Committee is charged with coordinating the annual awards competition, under the direction of the Public Relations and Marketing Community of Practice, Library Leadership and Management Association (LLAMA).

Over 390 entries in print and electronic formats were submitted from over 100 institutions, including public, academic, school, state and special libraries.

Entries were appraised by a jury of 8 in-person judges and 15 virtual judges. Submissions were assessed based on the quality of content, format, design, creativity and originality. The jury, which included a group of talented marketing and communications professionals, graphic designers, several outreach librarians and a library marketing consultant, were impressed by the innovative and compelling work submitted by libraries.

Winning entries will be on display at the PR XChange Event from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 25, 2017  in the ALA Exhibit Hall – Special Events Area, at the ALA Annual Conference in Chicago, Illinois.

The PR XChange Event offers visitors the opportunity to view and take home sample promotional materials from libraries across North America. Approximately 1,000 ALA Annual Conference attendees visit the PR XChange event each year.

All libraries are invited to mail their promotional materials to be shared with colleagues at the PR XChange Event. Mailing instructions and labels can be found at http://www.ala.org/llama/2017-pr-xchange-mailing-labels

This year, the PR XChange Event has invited the following guests:

2017 PR Xchange mailing labels now available: send your samples in!

If you’re wondering what to do with your back inventory of calendars, brochures, flyers, postcards, annual reports or other print collateral, LLAMA’s PR Exchange may be the answer! Send in your printed promotional materials now to share with colleagues at the 2017 PR Xchange program at ALA Annual conference in Chicago. Hundreds of conference attendees drop-in to this event each year to take home copies of PR materials from libraries across North America for their idea files. Please use the mailing labels at the link below to send quantities of at least 50 but no more than 100 each of your printed pieces to the convention center in advance of the PR Xchange program. Your materials will be put out for display and distribution at PR Xchange on Sunday, June 25 between 11:30 am-1:00 pm at McCormick Place, Exhibit Hall—Special events area.
