LAMA EVENTS AT ANNUAL
ORIENTATION/WELCOME FOR NEW AND PROSPECTIVE MEMBERS, Sunday, June 22, 12:30 –1:30 Pm, Sutton Place Hotel, Wellesley
This special event is for new, continuing, returning and prospective members and others who may be thinking about a future with LAMA. LAMA leaders and section representatives will be available to discuss the activities and focus of LAMA, its diverse slate of programs, its regional institutes, and its lively discussion groups. This will be a great chance to explore new ideas, both for LAMA veterans and for our very welcome new and potential members. If you know of anyone who is interested in joining LAMA or getting more involved, please tell them about this exciting event.

Every two years librarians and architects jointly recognize outstanding new library building projects. Through a juried process shared by ALA and the American Institute of Architects, the recognized libraries are selected as examples of excellence in both form and function. Please join us in the Toronto for a multi-media presentation of each winning project followed by an informal reception. Take this opportunity to see the best of library architecture and to visit with the designers and librarians who created these award-winning facilities.

Plan to spend some time with LAMA colleagues after the LAMA President’s Program at “Taste of Toronto.†The LAMA Membership Committee is planning an afternoon of gourmet tasting and fun for LAMA members and friends. The social will offer a wide variety of multicultural culinary delights from this diverse city and an opportunity to visit with old friends and new.

ATTEND THE ALA MEMBERSHIP MEETING
You are invited to the ALA Membership Meetings this summer. Two recent events are making it possible for you to attend a real ALA Membership Meeting at the ALA Conference this summer. First, yes, we really are going to Toronto in June. Second, and most exciting, the new by-law reducing the Membership Meeting quorum was passed (Yes – 7,741 / No – 747). So let’s get ready to really make this meeting an exciting and productive event.
Is there an issue you want to discuss at the annual ALA Membership Meetings? These meetings are your opportunity to directly express your interests, concerns and suggestions for the development of ALA. The committee on Membership Meetings is gathering member suggestions about discussion topics. Please send your ideas to committee chair Diedre Conkling (diedrec@charter.net) or any of the other committee members listed at the bottom of this message.

Saturday, June 21 from 4:00- 5:00 p.m.
Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC), Room 801A/B
Membership Meeting I immediately precedes the Opening General Session, which is being held just down the hall at 5:30 p.m. A special seating section will be set aside for everyone attending the Membership Meeting so that you will be guaranteed good seats.
MEMBERSHIP II
Monday, June 23 from 11:00 to noon
Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC), Constitution Hall (the room where ALA Council meets)
A drawing will be held toward 1 free Orlando conference registration for each 100 attendees at both meetings.

WICKY SLEIGHT LEADS “ONE BOOK, ONE CONFERENCE†DISCUSSION
FRFDS Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect Wicky Sleight will facilitate a discussion session on Margaret Atwood’s “The Handmaid’s Tale†as part of ALA’s first One Book, One Conference initiative on Sunday, June 22, 10:30 a.m. in the Toronto Convention Center. ALA encourages conference attendees to read Atwood’s novel, attend discussion sessions and hear Atwood speak at the PLA President’s program.
