ESTATE-PLANNING SEMINAR AT MIDWINTER
As part of the ALA Planned Giving Program, launched in fall 2001, there will be an estate-planning seminar for those interested in learning more about the benefits of making a planned gift to ALA. Brought back by popular demand, the one-hour workshop on recent changes in estate and gift tax laws will be presented by Paula Cozzi Goedert. ALA PREVIEWS NEW WEB DESIGN AT MIDWINTER
ALA will begin introducing members to its redesigned Web site at the 2003 Midwinter Meeting in Philadelphia, January 24 to 29. Members can preview the Web site in Room 303B of the Pennsylvania Convention Center, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, January 26. The new site will feature a better search engine, one-stop pages detailing ALA’s work in major areas of interest, a more modern look and feel and more content to help library professionals in their daily work. The home page also will feature new navigation headings. ALA staff and Web masters will be converting online content from the current site into the new management system over the next several months, with the new site scheduled to launch in spring 2003.

SUPREME COURT SETS SCHEDULE FOR CIPA APPEAL
Arguments on the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) will be held Wednesday, March 5, 2003, according to a schedule released December 18, by the U.S. Supreme Court. In May, the American Library Association (ALA) received a unanimous lower court ruling that CIPA is unconstitutional. The opinion was written by Chief Judge Edward R. Becker of the Third Circuit Court of Appeals and joined by U.S. District Court Judges John P. Fullam and Harvey Bartle III.
