LLAMA Board Initial Response to MW19 Incidents

For members who are not aware of recent incidents of harassment at the ALA Midwinter Meeting in Seattle, the Library Leadership and Management Association (LLAMA) would like to call attention to the ALA Executive Board’s response.

As our division name implies, we recognize we have a obligation to model supportive and respectful leadership across the entire organization. LLAMA affirms the efforts of ALA to uphold the Statement of Appropriate Conduct, and recognizes we have much to do to improve equity, diversity, and inclusion within ALA. LLAMA members know how important it is both for our division and for our home institutions to combat bias, racism and harassment, so that through our organizations, we can all provide the best library or information services possible. LLAMA will continue to emphasize the leadership and management competencies that support safe, supportive workplaces — Communication skills, Emotional intelligence, Ethics, Conflict management, Diversity consciousness, Professionalism and Self awareness — and will seek opportunities to make sure all our members feel this is their organization.
