Many librarians are hired or promoted into management positions without the benefit of specific management training. The knowledge they need to become good managers must often be learned on-the-fly. The Library Leadership and Management Association (LLAMA) will present “Management Success in an Unpredictable Landscape: Tools, Tips, and Tricks,” on Wed., Nov. 18, at 1:30 – 3:00 pm (Central time). This webinar will introduce attendees to a simple methodology and practical tools to help managers prioritize issues, remove roadblocks, and clear the way for team success.

Participants will:

• Learn about management successes and failures in three libraries that have implemented the RISWS management system (Reporting/Interpreting/Solving Workflow Solutions)
• Understand how the RISWS method helps uncover problems that make people unhappy at work
• Develop strategies for prioritizing thorny management issues (what you can control/change vs. what is outside of your control) for efficiency
• Learn how to create an environment of trust in the workplace so that people are empowered to do their best work

Presenters:

Rana Hutchinson Salzmann, M.A., M.L.S., is the Director of Library and IT at Meadville Lombard Theological School (Unitarian Universalist) in Chicago. She has worked as an information/organizational strategist in public, special/non-profit, and academic library management for the past decade.

Magda Pecsenye, M.B.A, is a business and personal consultant based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where she offers online workshops and one-on-one coaching.
