“Off-site but Not Out of Reach: the Shared High Density Storage Solution” A LAMA preconference and facility bus tour Friday, June 22, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
This day-long preconference offers a tour of the Washington Research Library Consortium (WRLC) high-density shelving facility shared by eight research institutions, a catered lunch, and afternoon program on-site. Participants will learn about the various issues in planning and/or participating in a shared facility, such as needs of constituencies, funding models, storage and plant options, staffing, auxiliary services, and collection decisions. Resource packets will be provided.

What better way to learn about library space planning than to visit new and renovated libraries? What better city to see a variety of instituti0onal, academic and public libraries than Washington, DC. The LAMA BES Functional Planning Committee will host a walking tour of some of the most interesting public, academic and specialty libraries in the District of Columbia, and will explore applications of the latest edition of “Building Blocks: Planning Functional Library Space.”
