LAMA SEEKS “BEST OF SHOW” AWARD WINNERS
Outstanding library public relations materials are being sought for the Library Administration and Management Association (LAMA) Public Relations Section Swap and Shop “Best of Show” awards competition. Winning entries will be on display during the Swap and Shop program on Sunday, June 16, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., during the American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference in Atlanta; winners will receive awards on that day. Eligible categories of promotional materials include: calendars of events; newsletters; annual reports; bibliographies/booklists; services/policy/ orientation materials; materials that promote programs, events or educate the public about diversity; fund-raising materials, programs, events; programs/special events; original children’s summer reading club materials; original young adult summer reading club materials; original adult reading club materials; materials about the Internet or the library’s Web site.
Entries will be accepted after March 5, 2002, and no later than April 6, 2002. LAMA/YBP STUDENT WRITING AND DEVELOPMENT AWARD SEEKS ENTRANTS
Students enrolled in ALA-accredited library and information studies programs are invited to submit articles in the Student Writing and Development Award competition sponsored by the Library Administration and Management Association (LAMA) and YBP, Inc. The deadline for entries is May 1, 2002.
The LAMA/YBP Student Writing and Development Award is given to honor the best article submitted on a topic in the area of library administration and management. The topic for the 2002 competition is: The Library as Place. The winning article will be published in the fall 2002 issue of Library Administration & Management. The award recipient also will receive a travel grant of up to $1,000, funded by YBP, Inc., to be used to attend the 2002 ALA Annual Conference in Atlanta. 2002 DIVERSITY FAIR CALL FOR ENTRIES
The American Library Association again invites its members from all types of libraries to participate in the Fifth Annual Diversity Fair at the 2002 ALA Annual Conference, celebrating the extraordinary examples of diversity in America’s libraries, and to demonstrate possibilities for other libraries in search of “diversity in action” ideas. Selected exhibitors will share their diversity initiatives in face-to-face presentations with conferees, utilizing a poster session/table talk format.
To apply to be an exhibitor, prepare an abstract of 150 words or less, that includes a description of the library’s “diversity in action” initiative, details of its implementation, the degree to which the initiative has succeeded, and the potential uses by other libraries. The entry form may be found at http://www.ala.org/olos highlight Diversity Fair. An Information Release Form (also found at this site) must accompany each entry. All entries will be included in a 2002 Diversity Fair Notebook, available at the conference. The deadline for receipt of entry forms is April 15, 2002. ENDOWMENT SPONSORS BALLGAME AT ANNUAL
The Library Administration and Management Association (LAMA) will host a baseball lover’s dream match between the Atlanta Braves and Boston Red Sox on Friday, June 14, 2002 at 7:35 pm, during the American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference in Atlanta. Event proceeds will benefit the LAMA Endowment Fund, which provides scholarship opportunities for library students to support their pursuit of a master’s of library science degree. The Endowment Fund also provides professional development grant opportunities for LAMA members to attend LAMA Regional Institutes and for exchange between LAMA members and international librarians to support attendance at international library association meetings and ALA Annual Conference.
The ticket price is $50. Online ticket sales will be available soon through Conference Registration at https://cs.ala.org/annual/2002/.
