LEADS from LLAMA

Are you ready to lead? In these turbulent times, well trained leaders are in demand more than ever. The Library Leadership and Management Association (LLAMA) will present “What is Leadership?” a half-day preconference, on Fri., June 22 from 1:00-4:00 p.m., at the American Library Association (ALA) annual conference in Anaheim.

This preconference will outline a theoretically driven yet pragmatic approach to leadership by presenting various leadership styles and appropriate applications. Participants will gain a solid “cookbook” approach to resolving different situational and structural issues.

Speakers:

Jay Johnston, M.S., M.A., is Executive Director of the Farmington Libraries, Farmington, Connecticut. His vision, knowledge of technology, coalition building skill, and belief in the importance of libraries sustain his dedication to a staff centered, customer focused, and high-energy model. He has a strong commitment to reengineering library programs to succeed and be relevant through the 21st century. Jay believes that leadership begins at the bottom and works its way up to the top through a holistic theory “Z” approach to leadership development.

Christine Bradley is Director of Norwalk Public Library, Norwalk, Con. She has been Executive Director of the Con. Library Consortium and is a Past President of the Con. Library Association. She has worked in public libraries in Boston, Mass., Olympia, Wash., and West Hartford, Con. Her professional interests range from customer service, project management, and public relations, to strategic planning. She is a judge for the Con. Book Awards and has been Chair of the Awards Committee of the American Library Association. Chris has twice been awarded the Con. Library Association’s Special Achievement Award.
