ALCTS Virtual Symposium

An ALCTS Virtual Symposium launches Jan. 9, 2012 and continues throughout that week with thought-provoking presentations from outstanding content leaders.  The Association for Library Collections and Technical Services (ALCTS) is pleased to present this timely topic to the library community.  Leadership is a much discussed topic and these presentations will certainly add to the discourse.

All presentations begin at 2 p.m. EST.  Registration is open.  Discounted registration for all five and group rates are available.  Current LIS student members of the American Library Association are free.  Join your colleagues for this important event just before the 2012 ALA Midwinter Meeting.

Keynote Address:  “I’m Your Leader: the Fundamentals of Effective Leadership” Adam Goodman

Dr. Adam Goodman is an award-winning educator, researcher and trusted advisor to leaders of companies, non-profit groups and other organizations. He directs Northwestern University’s Center for Leadership, which offers academic and applied leadership development programs for undergraduate students, Ph.D. students and high potential staff. He teaches leadership courses in the McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science and the Kellogg School of Management.

 “Leadership by Disruption” presented by Pamela Sandlian Smith, director of Anythink Libraries in Adams County, Colorado, a northern suburb of Denver.

Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012
“Leadership: What It Means for the Library Middle Manager” presented by Mary Page, the associate director for Collections and Technical Services at the University of Central Florida Libraries. Mary is a past president of NASIG, the North American Serials Interest Group, and a current member of the ALA/ALCTS Board of Directors.

Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012
 “Leadership: From Proto-Star to Supernova” presented by Erica Findley and Maureen Sullivan

Maureen Sullivan is a widely recognized leader and educator in the library profession. She is a professor of practice in the Managerial Leadership in the Information Professions PhD program at Simmons College and a member of the faculty in the annual Leadership Institute for Academic Librarians at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Maureen currently is president-elect of the American Library Association. Erica Findley is the Digital Resources and Metadata Librarian at Pacific University. Erica served as the vice chair for the ALCTS New Members Interest Group.

James Hilton is vice president and chief information officer at the University of Virginia, where he is responsible for planning and coordinating academic and administrative information technology, voice communications and network operations on a university-wide basis.
